Our Structure

Kerry Murphy PSM, AFSM is the Chairman of the CFA Board and has held the position since his appointment on 1 April 2007.

A longstanding firefighter, Kerry became a CFA member in 1974 when he joined Mount Macedon Fire Brigade as a volunteer. Throughout his association with the brigade, Kerry has held the positions of Captain, Lieutenant, Group Officer, Firefighter and Deputy Group Officer.

During his 32 years as a CFA volunteer, Kerry has been strongly committed to development in country Victoria with executive roles at Regional Development Victoria and, before that, Business Victoria. Joining the CFA Board in 2006 has allowed Kerry to contribute to CFA in an area that differs from his volunteer roots.

He has brought a more business-oriented capacity to CFA, enriching the organisation through his economic skills and ability to effect change. He became Chairman in 2007.

In 2002, Kerry was awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) in recognition of his distinguished service to the Australian fire services and a Public Service Medal (PSM) for service to business in regional Victoria.

Kerry was Captain of the Mt Macedon Fire Brigade for 12 years, including during the 1983 Ash Wednesday Bushfires.

Mick joined CFA as Chief Executive Officer in September 2009.

Prior to his appointment, Mick held the positions of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA), and Managing Director of City West Water.

Mick is focused on teamwork and innovation and he sees his role as being a catalyst for enabling people to create change that is good for CFA's future.

Growing up in rural Victoria helped Mick to develop a keen understanding of the significant role that volunteering plays in life and business and he remains committed to country Victoria. He sees climate change as one of the biggest challenges facing mankind, believing these changes will alter the global approach to fighting fires.

A keen community contributor, Mick was until recently the Environmental Monitor for the Bay Dredging Project, sits on the Board of Sustainability Victoria and is a member of the Hobsons Bay Community Fund.

Euan Ferguson was warmly welcomed back to CFA as Chief Officer in November 2010 after almost ten years heading up South Australia's Country Fire Service.

Introduced to firefighting in 1977 as a young Field Forester for the Victorian Forest Commission in East Gippsland, Euan first joined CFA in 1993, starting out at CFA Training College - Fiskville.

Going on to work across a number of roles at CFA including Operations Manager, Deputy Chief Officer and Acting Chief Officer before moving to South Australia, Euan has accrued a remarkable thirty years' experience in the industry across three fire services.

Euan is an official White Ribbon Day ambassador, and acknowledges the sense of social responsibility inherent in being a CFA member. In November 2010, Euan took the White Ribbon oath to help end violence against women.

Euan returns to CFA with a strong philosophy as Chief; and that is that the person at the frontline is the most important person in the organisation.
