Herbicide Policy
About the Herbicide Policy
CFA supports the use of herbicide for fire prevention on private
and public land, where it is safe and effective.
In response to changes in legislation and concerns about safety
and environmental issues, CFA has developed the Herbicide
Policy - doc 60k to provide general guidance on all CFA herbicide use.
This
policy outlines issues such as safety, communication and approvals
that need to be considered when CFA members use herbicide.
About the Herbicide Use (Fire Prevention) Guideline
In addition to the Herbicide Policy, the Herbicide
Use (Fire Prevention) Guideline - doc 75k has been developed to provide
detailed guidance regarding CFA herbicide use for fire prevention.
This guideline provides detailed guidance on how and where CFA
members can apply herbicide for fire prevention. It
considers issues such as:
- effective fire prevention planning
- environmental and safety issues
- consultation,
notification and reporting requirements
- training requirements
- the development and use of works plans
While the policy and guideline provide direction to CFA members,
they also provide direction to others that use CFA members to apply
herbicide for fire prevention, such as some municipalities.
Herbicide Use for Fire Prevention Brochure
The Herbicide Use
for Fire Prevention Brochure - pdf 145k is also available, which is
a simple summary of the guideline for CFA members. Copies of
the brochure are also available from Community Safety on 03 9262
