CFA Fiskville is the largest and most comprehensive of CFA's field training grounds. Located just off the Western Freeway near Ballan, Fiskville was formerly used as a radio transmission station by Amalgamated Wireless of Australia (AWA) to handle overseas communication from Australia to Canada and England.

During World War II, Fiskville was operated by the Department of Defence and in the post war years, was used by OTC until satellites rendered its equipment obsolete.

The transformation of Fiskville into a specialised fire service training college occurred early in the 1970s and this now represents an investment of around $10 million in the complex.

Fiskville offers a wide variety of courses and training facilities to CFA personnel and industrial clients. With a highly skilled instructor group available, courses ranging from basic firefighting to complex incident management and planning are conducted.
Course design can be tailored to satisfy special requirements.

Gas and flammable fire training areas are available with an extensive array of props to add realism and interest to the training.

Fireground facilities include:

  • Multi storey building and structures
  • Flammable liquid pits
  • Simulated LPG installations (domestic, industrial, service station)
  • Hazardous materials
  • Breathing apparatus
  • Search and rescue facilities
  • Road accident rescue (include level crossing)
  • Confined space rescue
  • Driver training
  • Fiskville PAD at nightAdventure training
  • Teambuilding and leadership facilities

Flexibility in timing for day and/or night exercises is available with few restrictions on pad operations.
